Elizabeth Coffey will be the featured artist for the August First Friday Art Walk. Stop by to see her multi-media portraits as well as the other art in the gallery.
This series of portraits is based on found photographs, cropped and manipulated to show some features, but hide others. The subject’s full face is never revealed, inviting the viewer to relate to her through the pose, clothing and color. How much visual information do we need to form an impression and make up a story about someone? I hope that viewers are curious about the subjects of these portraits, and will see their own stories in them. Elizabeth Coffey
Elizabeth is a mixed-media artist living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Through a combination of painting, drawing and collage, Elizabeth explores relationships and the individual’s place in the world.
