Chop Suey, Edward Hopper, 1929
Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world.
Edward Hopper
Hopper is one of my favorite artists and Chop Suey one of my favorite of his paintings. I appreciate that he renders his images with strong lines, bold colors, and sharp contrasts between light and dark; they are not at all fussy. But what I really love is that his paintings are mysterious. They hint at intrigue, secret liaisons, emotions bubbling just under the surface…I want to know the story behind each painting!
