Thurstons
Thurston’s Lobster Pound, oil on canvas, 30 X 20 (c) Kathleen Hall

$1,200

Few things are more Maine than fresh lobster and, while you can get lobster at most any restaurant in Maine (even chains like Panera), it’s not quite the same as sitting on the water at a real lobster pound. Thurston’s Lobster Pound is a family-owned business in Bass Harbor, on the “quiet side” of Mount Desert Island, near the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. If you’re in Maine in late July or August, you can finish your meal with a slice of fresh Maine blueberry pie. Life in Maine is good–very, very good.
